“And Breathe” was conceived by Victor Ptak and centres around the affairs of Fred a Care Home Owner manager who during lockdown developed a terminal illness. The play is set post Covid and explores the relationship between Fred, his family and friends and the care home residents. The play explores the humorous side of human behaviour as the rage that Fred feels towards both himself and the world as he understands it consumes him. Can Fred redeem himself? Perhaps.
In a changed world post Covid Claire , Freds wife, seeks to cope with these changes in the only way she knows how but her frustrations come to the boil at the antics of her husband from whom she becomes increasingly distant.
The final member of Freds family is Abigail, his much loved Daughter whose behaviour belies her true feelings, how do you cope with loss and manage grief at a young age.?
The care home is managed and run by Claire during Freds illness but she has the indispensable help of Tom, Handy Man in more ways than one, who has a real affinity for the residents but whose life experiences have shaped him in a totally different way.
Finally we come to Daphne, family friend and confidant whose well meaning advice is often misunderstood and who finally cracks revealing her true self, if only for a moment, as she rails at the injustice of it all.
